Day 1

After 3 flights and 2 stopovers, we’ve finally made it to our first stop, Lisbon.  On the flight over here I read the book “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch, given to me as a very fitting parting gift by my uncle (who also is my employer/teacher/life mentor).  It’s a book written by a professor at Carnegie Mellon University who has terminal cancer and this book is the last wisdom he has to impart to this world.  It’s similar to Tuesdays with Morrie.  There is some amazing advice in this book and if I was to do a book report I would fail drastically as I wouldn’t be able to sum up all the great guidance in there.  One of the first chapters discusses achieving your childhood dreams, and I feel ridiculously fortunate that I am doing that right now on this trip with Di!  It feels surreal, leaving home, our jobs, lives, families and friends.  But it’s also exciting, and there’s no place I’d rather be than right here with her.  I’ll finish this entry with a quote from the book: “Time is all you have.  And you may find one day that you have less than you think.”  So go out there, and achieve your childhood dreams when time, energy and health is on your side!

OK I lied, there is a place I’d rather be right now than in Lisbon…and that would be at GM (Canada Hockey) Place or at a Vancouver pub, with my friends watching Canada win the gold medal in hockey.  We’ll have to find a pub in Lisbon that airs it, wish us luck.

thank you

We just wanted to thank everyone for coming out last night to bid Di and I farewell.  Hope some of you guys will meet up with us on our travels.  Take care.

one more week!

it's exactly one more week until our rtw!  where did the time go?  nevertheless we are super stoked.

thanks to preet and his welcoming parents, we met one of the coolest couples carol and doug.  after doug completed medical school they decided to take one year to make their way home from new zealand back to canada.  they shared with us a tiny part of their own rtw and most importantly, we learned from them that this is only the beginning of many more rtw's yet to come.  they were truly inspirational, thank you.  and thanks to preet's family for helpful information on india, as well as lovely home made dinner.  it had to be my biggest meal so far because i couldn't stop eating.

we'll be seeing you all this week before our journey!
